03/12/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Capitals will try to post back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly two weeks when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers for tonight's Eastern Conference showdown at the Wachovia Center.
The Capitals are first in the Southeast Division and third in the East with 88 points, but had lost four straight games prior to Tuesday's overtime victory in Nashville. Washington has a 10-point lead over Carolina for the division lead and is just one point behind New Jersey for the conference's second seed.
After earning a point in Sunday's shootout loss to Pittsburgh, the Caps were able to record a close win two days later in the Music City. Sergei Fedorov's tally 2:20 into OT was the difference, as Washington edged the Predators, 2-1, at Sommet Center.
Nicklas Backstrom scored the regulation goal for the Capitals and Jose Theodore stopped 27-of-28 shots to earn the victory, his 25th of the season.
Alex Ovechkin posted an assist to extend his point streak to eight games. Alexander Semin pushed his point streak to seven games with an assist, but had his goal-scoring run snapped at six.
The Caps are 16-12-4 as the guest this year and have won four straight and five of their last six road games. Washington will head home for Saturday's game against Carolina, but will then head back out on a five-game road trip.
Philadelphia is currently fourth in the East with 82 points and holds a three- point edge over Montreal in the conference standings. The Flyers have won two straight and three of their last four outings and are coming off Tuesday's home win over Buffalo.
Scott Hartnell recorded four points on two goals and two assists, and Jeff Carter also scored twice, as the Flyers used a four-goal third period to best Buffalo, 5-2, at the Wachovia Center.
Mike Richards had the other score and both Joffrey Lupul and Kimmo Timonen contributed two assists for the Flyers. Martin Biron made 27 stops for his 21st win of the season and improved to 5-2-1 against his former team.
The Flyers, who are 20-9-4 as the host this year, are playing the fourth segment of a five-game homestand tonight. Philly will complete the residency Saturday in the opener of a home-and-home series against the rival New York Rangers.
Philadelphia has taken two of three from the Caps this season and tonight's tilt will cap the season series. Washington has won seven of 11 overall in the series, but the Flyers have picked up a win in four of the last seven encounters. Philadelphia also halted a four-game home losing streak in the series with a 7-1 victory on December 20.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.
Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.
Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.
Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com. El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
