06/24/2010 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Yovani Gallardo twirled a complete game five- hitter and chipped in with two hits and two runs scored to lead Milwaukee past Minnesota, 5-0, and complete a series sweep of their interleague rivals at Miller Park.
Gallardo (7-3) retired the first 16 batters he faced before Drew Butera singled into right field to end his bid for perfection. The right-hander tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts and did not walk a batter for the Brewers, who have won four in a row to match their longest win streak of the season.
"Any time you get a shutout it's a great feeling," Gallardo said about his 122-pitch effort. "It was too early to think about a perfect game. I was just thinking about making my pitches. My command has gotten a lot better and I was able to mix things up."
Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder each hit home runs for Milwaukee, which improved to 7-5 in interleague action.
Nick Blackburn (6-5) suffered the loss after yielding five runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings, as he failed to get past the fourth inning for the fourth time in his last five turns for the Twins, who have dropped five of their last seven.
The Brewers broke up a scoreless game in the third when Gallardo started the rally with a one-out double and scored when Weeks followed with his two-run homer to left. Corey Hart then walked and scored when Fielder blasted his long ball the other way to left-center field.
Gallardo singled with two outs in the fourth and advanced to second base after Denard Span misplayed the ball in center field. Weeks walked in front of Hart, who singled to right to drive in Gallardo to make it a 5-0 contest and knock Blackburn out of the game.
Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel singled with one out in the seventh before Gallardo struck out Michael Cuddyer and got Delmon Young to ground out to end the threat.
The Twins would get a single in the eighth inning and a one-out double from Morneau in the ninth but could not push a runner past second base the entire game against Gallardo, who put together his third career route-going performance and second complete-game shutout of the season and his career.
"Tough game today, the young man over there pitched fantastic," said Twins' skipper Ron Gardenhire. "His fastball was very good. You get behind and he gets on a roll and that's what happens."

Big 12 Conference betting odds
Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State
Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.
Work left to do:
Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.
Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.
Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
Current betting odds Heisman trophy are:
| Brady Quinn (QB, Notre Dame) Adrian Peterson (RB, Oklahoma) Troy Smith (QB, Ohio State) Michael Bush (RB, Louisville) Steve Slaton (RB, West Virginia) Brian Brohm (QB, Louisville) Chris Leak (QB, Florida) Mike Hart (RB, Michigan) Ted Ginn (WR, Ohio State) Darius Walker (RB, Notre Dame) Drew Tate (QB, Iowa) Marshawn Lynch (RB, Cal) Kenny Irons (RB, Auburn) Chad Henne (QB, Michigan) Kyle Wright (QB, Miami) Drew Stanton (QB, Michigan State) Kenneth Darby (RB, Alabama) JaMarcus Russell (QB, LSU) Drew Weatherford (QB, Florida State) Blake Mitchell (QB, South Carolina) Reggie Ball (QB, Georgia Tech) |
