03/02/2007 - Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mike Cammalleri's power-play goal with 1:43 left in overtime sent the Los Angeles Kings over the Anaheim Ducks, 4-3, at Staples Center.
Alex Frolov, Raitis Ivanans and Jamie Lundmark scored for the Kings, winners in three of four. Dustin Brown picked up a pair of assists, and Sean Burke stopped 27 shots to post his sixth win of the season.
Scott Niedermayer had a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who had their two- game win streak halted and lost for the fourth time in their last six contests. Dustin Penner and Andy McDonald tallied, while Chris Pronger added a pair of helpers.
Ilya Bryzgalov surrendered four goals on 21 shots in the loss.
"We didn't play with the urgency that the situation called for," said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle. "Our mental preparation has to get better, and that's from every member of our team."
From the right circle, Cammalleri hammered a pass from Lubomir Visnovsky over Bryzgalov's shoulder after the Anaheim netminder uncharacteristically came way out of his crease to challenge the shot. The goal capped a rally from a two- goal deficit against the second-best club in the Western Conference.
"This was a game we needed help from everybody, and we got it," said Kings head coach Marc Crawford. "Cammalleri scores the winner, our guys battled hard, and that speaks for the chemistry of our group."
This heated rivalry between two teams located an hour apart in Southern California was the first game the Kings played since 1996 without its previous captain, Mattias Norstrom, who was dealt to Dallas on Tuesday. However, defenseman Jaroslav Modry returned to Los Angeles in the Norstrom deal, skating in a Kings uniform for the first time since 2004.
LA drew first blood at 4:24 of the first period, when Frolov turned on the jets to blow past a pair of Anaheim defenders at center ice, broke in alone, and stuck a backhander on the short side.
The Ducks drew even on a power play with 3:31 left, as Niedermayer's right circle centering feed found Penner's stick in the slot, and the puck deflected slowly through Burke's pads for his 22nd goal of the season.
It was 2-1 for Anaheim at 3:43 of the second courtesy of another power-play goal, as Pronger's left point slapper skidded on end and ricocheted off Niedermayer's stick blade through Burke.
The lead became 3-1 with 4:21 to go as McDonald took a lead pass from Teemu Selanne in the slot and slid a backhander just inside the right post, but the margin was short-lived as Ivanans picked up his third of the year only 21 seconds later to make it 3-2.
Jamie Heward helped the Kings tie the game, 3-3, with 8:49 to play, as his perfect rising point blast was tipped home by journeyman forward Lundmark.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
