Sharks and Ducks meet for showdown in Anaheim

03/02/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A key Pacific Division clash will take place tonight at Anaheim's Honda Center, where the first-place Ducks host the new-look San Jose Sharks.

Anaheim enters the showdown with 85 points, five more than second-place Dallas and seven ahead of San Jose in the Pacific standings. The Ducks missed out on a chance to pad their lead on Thursday, however, as the club lost in overtime to the lowly Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center.

Mike Cammalleri scored on the power play with 1:43 remaining in the extra period to give Los Angeles a 4-3 victory, which ended a two-game win streak for Anaheim.

Scott Niedermayer had a goal and an assist for the Ducks, while fellow blueliner Chris Pronger recorded a pair of helpers. Dustin Penner and Andy McDonald had Anaheim's other two goals.

The Ducks fell despite outshooting the Kings by a 30-21 margin, as Anaheim netminder Ilya Bryzgalov came up with just 17 saves.

Anaheim begins a season-high eight-game homestand tonight and brings an 18-12-2 mark at the Honda Center into tonight's matchup.

San Jose made one of the biggest moves at Tuesday's trade deadline, acquiring All-Star right wing Bill Guerin from St. Louis for forward Ville Nieminen, prospect Jay Barriball and a first-round draft choice. The veteran sniper made his debut with his new club on Wednesday, but couldn't prevent the Sharks from suffering a third straight defeat.

Nashville's J.P. Dumont scored the clinching goal in the fourth round of the shootout as the Predators came away with a 4-3 decision over San Jose at HP Pavilion.

Guerin had three shots on goal but did not register a point for the Sharks. Steve Bernier, Matt Carle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic had the team's three regulation goals, while goaltender Evgeni Nabokov ended with 29 saves.

The Sharks, who have now lost six of their last eight and fallen into sixth place in the Western Conference standings, played without captain Patrick Marleau on Wednesday. The star center has an upper body injury and is questionable to return tonight.

The Ducks have won four of the six previous meetings between these Pacific foes this season, although the Sharks came away with a 3-2 victory on February 7 in their most recent visit to Anaheim.

The teams met in San Jose on Monday, with the Ducks posting a 3-2 triumph.
