Union, Goats battle to draw

07/04/2010 - Carson, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Union and Chivas USA battled to a 1-1 draw at The Home Depot Center in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.

Rookies Danny Mwanga and Blair Gavin scored for their respective clubs in the first half as neither team generated much offense throughout the game.

Mwanga gave the Union the lead in the 21st minute when he ran onto a Sebastien Le Toux flick in the Chivas USA area, and touched the ball over an onrushing Zach Thornton for his fifth goal of the season.

Chivas USA tied the score three minutes before the first-half break when Gavin blasted a loose ball from the top of the Philadelphia penalty area past goalkeeper Chris Seitz and in for his second goal of the season.

With the draw, Chivas USA (3-9-2) snapped a six-game losing streak, although it is still winless in seven. The Goats will try to get the full points at Kansas City next Saturday, while Philadelphia (3-7-2) hosts San Jose the same day in its next MLS fixture.

So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
